The Jackson Percussion Concussion

Kids like Brandon Martz are living everyday with a debilitating disease, muscular dystrophy, that causes their muscles to waste away. Some forms of muscular dystrophy, such as Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, usually starts showing symptoms around the age of two or three and most kids diagnosed with Duchenne only live to see their 20s or 30s.

This is a new event for Jackson where drumlines can gather in one venue to raise money for MDA and showcase their talent. During this event, area high school drumlines will have the opportunity to work one on one with a celebrity judge from the Detroit Piston’s drumline and WOW the crowds with a 3 to 5 minute performance.
The Jackson Percussion Concussion is a community fundraiser for the MDA.

...Monies received from your efforts benefits MDA families in your area by
providing health services such clinic visits, physical, occupational and
respiratory therapy, support groups, flu shots, summer camp and much more.
These services could not be possible without volunteer support.

About Me

Hi! My name is Brandon Martz, I am very excited about this event that is scheduled to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy.

I have Duchenne's MD. The DMD makes some things more difficult for me like running and climbing stairs.  I also have trouble getting up from the floor, if I fall, I need help to get up.  Walking long distances is also a challenge for me so I use a scooter. I have a multitude of Doctors that oversee my care, I take 23 pills a day, and also watch my diet.

Sometimes I will seem like I’m not listening but I do hear and understand everything you say. Sometimes it is hard for me to answer questions but that is just part of my DMD, it is called a processing disorder, where the answers get stuck in my head, and I can’t get the answers from my Brain out of my mouth. I also sometimes have trouble explaining when something is wrong or bothering me.

I love to draw and make things out of boxes and egg cartons, etc.  I love to go camping, take golf cart rides with my Dad and play on the computer.

Mostly, I just get treated like everyone else. My mom and Dad tell me that we are all good at some things and not-so good at others.   They also tell me that I am a Martz and Martz’s don’t give up!! My Mom says I am the most determined boy she has ever met.  Thanks for taking the time to read this.
